Equipment

  • Large pot
  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  • Stirring spoon

Ingredients

  • 500 g Italian sausage crumbled
  • 6 Bacon slices chopped
  • 3 Large potatoes cubed
  • 1 Onion diced
  • 3 Garlic cloves minced
  • 1.5 liters Chicken broth
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 2 cups Kale torn
  • 1 tsp Red pepper flakes
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

Prepare the Ingredients

  • Begin by heating your large pot over medium heat.
  • Add the crumbled Italian sausage and cook until brown. Remove the sausage and set aside.
  • In the same pot, add the chopped bacon. Cook until crisp.

Cook the Soup Base

  • Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the bacon drippings in the pot. Sauté until the onions become translucent.
  • Return the browned sausage to the pot.
  • Add the cubed potatoes and chicken broth. Get the mixture to a boil, then lower the heat so it doesn’t boil over.

Finish with Cream and Kale

  • It should take about 10 minutes of simmering for the potatoes to get soft.
  • Stir in the heavy cream and torn kale. Cook until the kale is wilted and the soup is heated through.

Notes

  • Adding more red pepper flakes will make it spicier.
  • You can make the soup thinner by adding more chicken broth.
