Cuisine American, Mexican
- 1 lb Ground beef
- 1 medium Onion finely chopped
- 2 Garlic cloves minced
- 2 tbsp Chili powder
- 1 tsp Cumin
- 1 cup Tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup Beef broth
- 4 large Flour tortillas
- 1 1/2 cups Cheddar cheese grated
- Salt and pepper to taste
Preparing the Chilito Filling
Cook the Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until it’s no longer pink. Drain any excess fat.
Add Aromatics: To the same skillet, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. While cooking, keep going until the onion is clear and the garlic smells good.
Spice it Up: Stir in the chili powder and cumin, cooking for another minute to unleash their flavors.
Sauce it Up: Pour in the tomato sauce and beef broth. For about 15 to 20 minutes, or until it thickens, let the mixture simmer. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Assembling and Baking
Pre-heat oven: Set your oven’s temperature to 375°F (190°C).
Assemble the Chilitos: Lay out the flour tortillas and distribute the beef mixture evenly among them. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese.
Roll and Bake: Roll up the tortillas tightly and place them seam side down in an oven-proof dish. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for about 15 minutes, or until heated through.
