Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Saucepan

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup Soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 2 tablespoons Honey
  • 2 cloves Fresh garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh ginger grated
  • 2 teaspoons Sesame oil
  • 1-2 teaspoons Red pepper flakes
  • 2 tablespoons Green onions finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice

Instructions

Combine the Liquid Ingredients

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together soy sauce, water, and honey until the honey is fully dissolved.

Add the Aromatics

  • Sliced ginger, garlic, and sesame oil should all be added and mixed in.

Bring the Heat

  • Depending on your heat preference, add 1 to 2 teaspoons of red pepper flakes.

Thicken the Sauce

  • In a small cup, mix cornstarch with a bit of water to create a slurry. Pour this into the sauce mixture.

Simmer to Perfection

  • Transfer the mixture to a saucepan and heat over medium heat until it slightly thickens. Stir frequently to prevent any lumps.

Finish with a Fresh Twist

  • Remove from heat and stir in the green onions and lemon juice.

Notes

  • Adding a splash of rice vinegar could add another level of flavor.
  • If you prefer a smoother sauce, you can strain it to remove the ginger and garlic bits.
  • This sauce stores well in the refrigerator for up to a week, making it a great make-ahead option for busy days.
