Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Cutting board
  • Chef’s knife
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk or fork (for the dressing)

Ingredients

  • 4 cups Broccoli cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/4 cup Red onion finely chopped
  • 1 cup Sharp cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1/2 cup Bacon cooked and crumbled
  • 1/4 cup Sunflower seeds
  • 1/2 cup Raisins
  • 1 cup Mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons White vinegar
  • 1/4 cup Sugar
  • To taste Salt and pepper

Instructions

Step: Prepare the Salad Base

  • In a large bowl, combine the broccoli, red onion, cheddar cheese, bacon, sunflower seeds, and raisins.
  • Toss everything together until well mixed.

Step: Whip Up the Dressing

  • In a smaller bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, white vinegar, sugar, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
  • Don’t stop whisking until the mixture is totally smooth and creamy.

Step: Combine and Chill

  • Pour the dressing over the broccoli mixture.
  • Toss the salad until all the ingredients are evenly coated with the dressing.
  • Put the dish in the fridge for at least an hour with the lid on. Adding this step makes the tastes mix really well.

Notes

  • Using Greek yogurt instead of mayonnaise will make it healthier. It gives a nice tanginess to the salad.
  • Toasting the sunflower seeds before adding them to the salad can bring out their nutty flavor.
  • If you’re making this ahead of time, add the sunflower seeds just before serving to maintain their crunch.
