Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound Elbow macaroni
  • 4 tablespoons Butter
  • 1/4 cup All-purpose flour
  • 3 cups Milk
  • 4 cups shredded Sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups shredded Mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup Bread crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper

Instructions
 

Preparing the Macaroni

  • Boil the elbow macaroni in a large pot of salted water until al dente.
  • Drain the macaroni and set aside.

Making the Cheese Sauce

  • Use medium-sized saucepan on medium heat to melt butter.
  • Stir in flour until smooth.
  • Gradually whisk in milk until the mixture is smooth and starts to thicken.
  • Add 3 cups of cheddar and all the mozzarella cheese to the saucepan, stirring until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.

Combining Macaroni and Cheese Sauce

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Coat the cooked macaroni in the cheese sauce in an even fashion.
  • Place the macaroni and cheese in the casserole dish that has been preheated.

Adding the Topping

  • Mix the remaining cheddar cheese with bread crumbs and sprinkle over the mac and cheese.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until the top is golden and bubbly, about 20 minutes.

Notes

  • For a crispier topping, place the baking dish under the broiler for 2-3 minutes after baking.
  • Feel free to mix in some cooked veggies or proteins to make it a one-dish meal.
