Equipment

  • Blender or food processor
  • Saucepan
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden spoon

Ingredients

  • 1 can 28 oz Canned crushed tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup Fresh basil leaves chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 tsp Dried oregano
  • To taste Salt
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1/4 tsp Black pepper

Instructions

Mixing the Tomatoes

  • Blend the crushed tomatoes lightly for a smoother texture.
  • On medium heat, warm up the olive oil in a saucepan.
  • Add minced garlic and sauté until golden.
  • Pour the blended tomatoes into the saucepan.

Adding the Flavors

  • Stir in chopped basil, oregano, salt, sugar, and black pepper.
  • Let the sauce simmer on low heat for 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.

Notes

  • Fresh vs. Dried Herbs: Fresh basil adds a vibrant flavor, but in a pinch, dried basil can work too. Remember that herbs that are dried have more potency.
  • Consistency is Key: Adjust the thickness of your sauce by simmering for longer for a thicker sauce, or add a bit of water for a thinner one.
