Equipment

  • Grill or skillet
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spatula
  • Meat thermometer (for those who like their burgers done just right)

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef 85% lean
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1/4 cup Onion finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 slices Cheddar cheese
  • 4 leaves Lettuce
  • 1 medium Tomato sliced
  • 1 small Red onion sliced
  • 4 slices Pickles
  • 4 Burger buns

Instructions

Getting the Patties Ready

  • Mix ground beef, salt, black pepper, chopped onion, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl.
  • Divide the mixture into four equal parts and form into patties.
  • Always let your patties sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes before grilling. It helps in cooking them evenly.

Cooking the Burgers

  • Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Cook the patties for about 5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or longer if you prefer them more done.
  • Add a slice of cheddar to each patty in the last minute of cooking, allowing it to melt.
  • A meat thermometer is your best friend for perfect doneness. Aim for 160°F for fully cooked burgers.

Assembling the Burgers

  • Toast the burger buns lightly on the grill or skillet.
  • Place a lettuce leaf on each bun bottom, followed by the burger patty.
  • Top with tomato, red onion, and pickles.
  • Cap it off with the bun top and serve immediately.
  • Toasting the buns adds a delightful crunch and prevents them from getting soggy.

Notes

  • For Juicier Burgers: Don’t press down on the patties while they’re cooking. It squeezes out the tasty juices.
  • Customize Your Toppings: Feel free to add or substitute toppings based on your preferences. Avocado, bacon, or even a fried egg can turn your burger into a gourmet feast.
